Why does a PRO 48 cost more to diagnose than a standard built-in?

Because it is two refrigerators in one cabinet. The PRO 48’s dual-refrigeration design runs separate sealed systems for the fresh-food and freezer sides, so a clean reading on one circuit proves nothing about the other. We gauge and frost-read each side independently — effectively two diagnoses — which is why sealed-system figures on these units are quoted per circuit rather than as one number.

Is the PRO 48 really a two-technician job?

For anything that requires pulling it forward, yes. A 48-inch PRO with its glass door and dual compressors approaches a thousand pounds, and easing that mass out of a 1920s alcove without scarring heart-pine floors or original casework is not a one-person task. We state the second technician at booking on any visit likely to need the unit moved — condenser-deep service, sealed-system work, or rear-panel access.

My PRO 48 has a glass door and the display fogs or the lights flicker — is that the sealed system?

Usually not. The glass-door PRO models add display lighting and a heated anti-condensation circuit that the solid-door units do not have, so fogging and flicker more often trace to the door’s seal, the LED supply, or the control board than to refrigerant. We check the gasket seat and the lighting circuit before anyone touches a gauge — the cheaper faults first, always.

One side of my PRO 48 is warm and the other is perfect — what does that mean?

That split is the dual-refrigeration signature, and it is actually good news for the diagnosis: it isolates the fault to one circuit. A warm fresh-food side with a hard-frozen freezer points at the fresh-food evaporator, its fan, or that circuit’s charge — not the whole machine. We diagnose only the failed side and leave the healthy circuit alone, which keeps the repair contained.

Are PRO 48 units worth repairing in a San Marco kitchen?

Almost always. A 48-inch PRO is a five-figure appliance, and replacing one in a Mediterranean Revival kitchen means cabinetry and panel work on top of the unit cost — frequently approaching $14,000 once the carpentry is priced. After Hurricane Irma, can a flood-exposed PRO 48 still be saved?

Often, but the inspection is more involved because there is more to inspect. With two sealed systems, two sets of compressor terminals, and a larger harness, a PRO 48 that took brackish water along River Road or the Southbank has more connectors where slow corrosion can surface years later. We inspect both circuits’ terminals and the board together; if the damage has spread past what is sensible to repair, we tell you rather than stack repairs on a failing cabinet.
